Be a Camper

Youth ages 9-14 who have or have had a parent or immediate family member in prison or jail is invited to participate in our one-week FREE camp. With focus on the child (and not incarceration), Camp New Day U.P. provides an atmosphere that emphasizes positive reinforcement, growth, and FUN.

If needed, special accommodations can be made.

Campers who need it are supplied with necessities such as sleeping bags, toiletries, and even transportation to and from camp.

Be a Counselor

Typical Responsibilities of a Counselor
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for campers and staff.
  • Report directly to Camp Deans, should an issue arise with a camper(s), fellow counselor(s), or other staff.
  • Be with at least one camper at all times, except when on break or meeting with Deans.
  • No texting/email/cell phone use/internet access except during breaks.
  • Supervise/coordinate at least one choice activity per day.
  • Attend pre-camp training on the Saturday and Sunday before camp.
  • Responsible for getting the campers in your cabin to all camp activities on time.
  • Ensure that campers are showered and in bed on time and ensure that quiet time and lights-out rules are followed.
  • Report any unusual behavior of campers (i.e. not eating properly, trouble sleeping, etc).
  • Sit with campers during meal time.
  • Remain in cabin overnight unless other arrangements are made with Dean(s)
  • Be aware of and ready to implement any legally mandating reporting requirements with regards to child sexual/physical abuse and neglect.
  • Counselor duties will be explained in more detail at Counselor Training.
  • Counselor compensation for the week (including training days) is $400.

Volunteer Opportunities Could Include…

  • Transporting campers to and from camp.
  • Sharing talents such as Native American drumming, story telling, music, photography, fishing, nature guides, artists, etc.

DONATION OPPORTUNITIES / CAMP COSTS:

  • $720 per camper
  • $4400 for facility rental
  • $2500 for food
  • $2000 for transportation
